Terry Frank Croyle Sr.

October 1, 1942 - September 17, 2021

Obituary

On September 17, 2021, Terry Frank Croyle, Sr. departed this life and went home to be with the Lord.  Born on October 1, 1942, to Clarence and Irene (Golob) Croyle, Terry attended Ferndale High School, earning varsity letters in basketball and track and field.  He competed in the Pennsylvania Track and Field State Championships his senior year as a pole vaulter.  Upon graduation in 1961, he went to work full time in the family business, C. Croyle & Sons, with his father, Clarence Croyle, and his brother, Marlin Croyle.  He married the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy) Steinbring on November 3, 1962.  Their family grew to 6 children, 14 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, as he would say, “All because two people fell in love.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Marlin (Beattie) Croyle, sister Odessa (David) Blough, and daughter, Christine Croyle Yeager.  He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 59 years, Peggy; and their children, son Terry (Kim) Croyle, of Morgantown, West Virginia; Thomas (Missy) Croyle, of Davidsville, Pennsylvania; Kelly (Jason) Blank, of Hollsopple, Pennsylvania; and twins Tammy (Ryan) Saylor, of Berlin, Pennsylvania; and Travis (Jessica) Croyle, of Seattle, Washington; and grandchildren Drew, Park, Stefan, McKensi, Dawson, Frank, Nicole, Kirstie, Dylan, Zachary, Becca, Madison, Slayde and Stone.

Those who knew Terry will remember a man who was not afraid of hard work, was always willing to lend a hand, and valued time spent with family and friends.  He was a member of Ferndale United Methodist Church, where he served on the board.  He loved creating, building, and woodworking, especially the intricate novelty creations he made in his woodshop.

Regardless of the rigors of raising six children or the difficulties in making ends meet, whenever he was asked how he was doing, he would always respond, “I’m the richest man in the valley.”  He had a kind heart and gentle soul.  Although he will be sadly missed, his legacy and example will live on in all the lives he touched.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Ferndale United Methodist Church, 701 Vickroy Ave., Johnstown, PA 15905.  A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the church in Terry’s name.
