Obituary

Furnari, Thomas John “Uncle Tom”, 82, Johnstown, died Thursday February 24, 2011 at home. Born September 5, 1928 in Johnstown; a son of the late Thomas J. and Mary (Pisarchik) Furnari. He was also preceded in death by brothers, John and Frank Furnari; sisters, Anna Ozech, Helen Gaydos, Mary Yuhas, and Dorothy Bambino.

Mr. Furnari is survived by his wife of 59 years, Verna (Herbert) Furnari; daughters, Antoinette married to Dr. Paul Straub, Rolling Hills, CA, Linda Hamryszak fiance of William Pifeil, Paulette Furnari, a son, Thomas Furnari married to the former Mary Ann Maslo, all of Johnstown; grandchildren, Erik, Jacquelyn, Morgan Straub, David Hamryszak married to Denise, Erica Hamryszak, Nicole, Ryan, and Chelsea Furnari, great grandchildren, D’Andre and Madison; a brother, Joe Furnari, sisters, Margaret Gabriel, Agnes Mesnak all of Johnstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Furnari worked at Johnstown Wire Technologies in the wire mill. He is a WWII US Navy Veteran, was past president of Johnstown Racing Pigeon Club, First Slovak Band Hall, Catholic War Veterans, St. Therese Catholic Church, St. Clair Tremont Trap and Field Club, and Polski Dom. He was also an avid hunter and gardener.

Friends will be received at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

A funeral mass will be conducted at St. Therese Catholic Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Father Bernard Karmenocky officiating.
Burial will follow at Benshoff Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Therese Catholic Church.
