Obituary

Babish, William E., 92, Johnstown, passed away September 29, 2024, at James E Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona. Born May 10, 1932, in Portage, to the late John and Helen (Serke) Babish. Preceded in death by loving wife, Shirley (Goller) Babish; daughter, Donna Ross and husband Lance; and sisters, Helen Schreiner; Theresa Plummer; Mildred Finkley; and brothers, Steve and John Babish. Survived by daughter, Carol Lee and husband Andrew; grandchildren, Robert Lee and fiancée Shaye Babinger; Ryan Lee; Brittany Wolfhope and husband Bill; great grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, and Lily; siblings, Dorothy Lee; Jim Babish; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in Japan during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Menoher Post 155 and St. Gregory Catholic Church in Daisytown. Bill was also a member of the Daisytown and Cover Hill Fireman’s Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bill was known and will always be remembered for handing out Root Beer barrel candy. Special thank you to the VA of Altoona 6th floor for their exemplary care and caring. Family will receive friends Friday October 4th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd., where a service and military honors will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. Father Callistus Elue, officiating.
