Obituary
Smelko, William, 86, Hastings, formerly of Ambridge, died February 9, 2013 at Miners Medical Center. Born July 30, 1926. Son of the late Ludwig “Murph” and Mary (Slavicsky) Smelko. Preceded in death by parents and wife, Rita (Webb), who died in 1985. Survived by son, Thomas (Carol Frederick), Ambridge; daughters, Lucy Magoulick (Gary Burnheimer), Ebensburg and Evelyn (Jay Moberly), San Mateo, CA; grandson, Jacob Magoulick and wife, Katie, New Market, AL and very close and loving friend, Pegg Cunningham, Hastings. Bill was retired with 40 years of service as a shipper in the tin mill of LTV Steel in Aliquippa. During WWII he served in the US Navy as a member of the 37th Special Naval Battalion. He graduated from St. Veronica High School and Robert Morris College. He was a member of St Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings and the National Rifle Association. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Tuesday at the Easly-Hindman Funeral Home, 333 Beaver Street, Hastings. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday at St Bernard Catholic Church, Fr. Thaddeus Rettger, OSB officiating. Interment will be held at Good Samaritan Cemetery, Fair Oaks, PA.
