Obituary

Condo, Frederick “Poppy”, 85, Johnstown, died Sept. 2, 2010 at home. Born October 9, 1924 in Spring Mills, PA son of the late George and Margaret Ann (Schweitzer) Condo. Preceded in death by wife Betty Ann (Saylor), daughter Margaret Ann Geyer and brother John Condo.

Survived by daughter Kathleen Condo, Johnstown; son Jim Condo, San Diego CA; son David Condo, married to the former Bernadette Ruppert, East Petersburg PA; grandchildren Steve Geyer, Bellefonte PA; Shannon, married to Jeff Bassett, Johnstown; Derek and Samantha Condo, East Petersburg; TJ Ruppert, Washington DC; Colleen (Ruppert) married to Ben Alexander, Vienna VA; Ileana, Inez, Isabella and Felice Panebianco and their parents Ignazio and Ivana Panebianco, all of Johnstown; sister Vivian (Schweitzer) Schwing, Greensburg PA. Also survived by great-granddaughter Heather Bassett, Johnstown; nieces Jill (Jenkins) Rodgers and husband Ray, Johnstown and Janice (Jenkins) Acevedo and husband Herb, Austin TX; sisters-in-law Lois Jenkins and Patty Woodnorth.

Fred was a clerk for Conemaugh Lumber and life member of VFW Post 155. A WWII veteran, he served his country for 40 years, including 34 years in the PA National Guard’s 103rd Armor Battalion, retiring as a CW4. He loved books and shared that with his family, teaching four generations to love reading as much as he did.

At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing. Friends are invited to a memorial service at 11am Wednesday at Memorial Baptist Church. In honor of his memory, donations may be made to Colleen and Ben Alexander’s 2nd mission trip to Ciudad Delgado, El Salvador in October c/o Ben and Colleen, 9918 Oakdale Ct., Vienna VA 22181 or Cambria Co.
