Strachan William obituary pic

Strachan, Bill, 89, of Johnstown, passed away December 16, 2020. Born July 2, 1931 to the late John and Grace (Shull) Strachan of Moxham. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Jack (Margaret), and sisters Marion Millar (Bill) and Betty Rupert (Blair). Bill is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley (Miller), sister Jane Oleksak, children Robin Strachan, Susan LaLima (John), John Strachan (Monica), and Jenny Allen (Ed); grandchildren Lauren Fritts (Tim), Liz Kirkpatrick (Ryan), Emily Fabick (Simon Yeung), Devon Strachan, Trevor Strachan, and Chelsey Allen; great-grandchildren Caroline and William Fritts and Maggie and Tommy Kirkpatrick. Bill was a 1949 graduate of Johnstown High School, a proud veteran who served in the Army during the Korean War, was a member of Greater Johnstown Lodge 538, Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, and worked in management at Bethlehem Steel. He was an avid golfer (with the hole-in-one trophies to prove it) and voracious reader, with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things World War II. He was adored by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and was a friend to all. He will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, and countless memorable quotes that cover just about any situation. A memorial service will be held at a later date when it is safe for friends and family to gather and celebrate Bill’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something nice for someone, as Bill would have done.
