Manda, Charles Edward, 89, died March 7, 2015. A lifelong resident of Johnstown, he was born June 9, 1925. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Ruth Manda; brother, William Bernard; son, David Robert; and his beloved wife of 64 years, Anna Elizabeth (Pentrack). Survivors include his children, Patricia Collins (Henry), Miami, Fla.; Charlotte Ann Korlewitz (Larry) Seward; Richard Edward Manda (Elizabeth), Coraopolis, Pa.; Lloyd Paul Manda (Carolyn), Sunrise, Fla.; Michael John Manda (Barbara), Nicktown; and Margaret Ruth Grimm (Michael), Holly Ridge, N.C.; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Charles (Ed) graduated from Johnstown High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He loved his country and was very patriotic He joined the U.S. Navy and served in Washington, D.C., as honor guard for President Roosevelt. Charles was a loving and devoted husband and father. Through his example, he taught the importance of education, hard work, sound moral values, strength and perseverance. He was a very proud man and made many sacrifices for his family. For many years, he held two jobs, working full-time at one and part-time at the other in order to support his family. Employers included Bingler Ford Co. and Thackray Supply, where he held managerial positions. His part-time work at the Penn News Co. began as a teenager and continued intermittently over the next 40-plus years. He also worked at Sears and General Telephone Co. Private services honoring Mr. Manda’s life will be held at a later date.
