Obituary

Tourney, Charles E., 99, Portage (formerly of Johnstown), went to be with his heavenly Father April 14, 2016. Born June 18, 1916 in Greensburg, to the late Charles and Helen (Adams) Tourney. Charles was the last surviving of five children. He is survived by loving wife, Rita (Newhouse) Tourney; children, Larry and wife Theresa (Voytas); Gary; Patricia Bender and husband Donald; Charlie and wife Kelly (Duryea); 10 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Charles was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retiree of Bethlehem Steel. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 137. Charles enjoyed golfing but his biggest enjoyment came from his family. They were his true passion. At Charles’ request there will be no viewing. A memorial mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20 at St. Benedict Church. Following mass, friends are invited to participate in a memorial celebration at the American Legion Post 137, 312 14th St., Windber, PA 15963.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project through American Legion Post 137. Charles was a loving man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
