Hastings, PA – Charles W. “Chick” Gauntner, 100, of Hastings passed away February 14, 2020 at Miners Hospital.

Born April 10, 1919, in Ashville, PA; he was a son of the late William and Rose (Rhoa) Gauntner. Also preceded in death by wife, Helen (Holtz) Gauntner, second wife, Louella (Bender) Murphy Gauntner, sisters,  Florence Gauntner, Goldie Daugherty, Marie Ivory, Mae Long, and Stella Shortencarrier, brothers, Roy, James and William “Sparky” Gauntner.

Survived by a son, Charles W. Gauntner Jr of Carteret, NJ; step son, Ronald Murphy (Sharon) of Hastings; step daughter, Darlene Pohlman(William) of Hendersonville, TN; sister, Emma Hall of Hollidaysburg, grandchildren, Karen Capolunghi, Sharon Procter, Pamala Atkinson, Tammy Serrano, Erica Yoho, Melissa Pohlman, Lorie Dobransky, Jeffrey Murphy, and Stacy Warner; 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Mr. Gauntner was a coal miner and had also worked at the Hastings Shoe Factory. Served in the US Air Force During WWII and was a member of the Hasting VFW post 1586 since 1966; American Legion in Loretto for 54 years. Also, a member of St Bernard Catholic Church and United Mine Workers. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking.

Friends received 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM Tuesday February 18, 2020 at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 333 Beaver Street Hastings.

Funeral Mass will be held 11:00AM Wednesday February 19, 2020, St. Bernard Church, 148 Beaver Street, Hastings, PA.  Interment will follow in St. Benedict Cemetery, Carrolltown.
