Shaffer, Charles W., 79, Johnstown, passed away July 20, 2017, at home surrounded by family. Born December 16, 1937, Johnstown, son of the late Roy and Lenora (Shaw) Shaffer. Survived by his loving wife of 57 and a half years, Jean M. (Rucosky); children, Pattie Miller and fiancé, Jim Schetrompf, Johnstown; Dawn Smith and husband, Jeff, Johnstown ; David Shaffer, Destin FL; grandchildren, Gary Miller and wife, Julianne, Blairsville; Charlie and significant other, Jess Carthew, Johnstown; Maggie McClintock, Johnstown; Jennifer Fontana and husband, Vince, Fort Dix NJ; Jeffrey Smith and fiancé, Ashley Davis, Mooresville NC; Sydnie Shaffer, Destin FL; Tyler Nesmith, Destin FL; great-grandson, Henry Fontana, Fort Dix NJ; brother Roy Shaffer and wife Jolene of Johnstown; special cousins, Phoebe Reighard, Johnstown; Pat Sleek and husband, Buck, Johnstown; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Charles graduated from Johnstown High class of 1955 where he and his wife went on their first date at senior prom, afterwards he joined the Army National Guard and retired from Bethlehem Steel.  Later in life Charles enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the simple joys of life, going to Myrtle Beach during the winter months, celebrating Christmas with his family, and going to Rocky Gap.  He was an expert marksman who enjoyed fishing/hunting and belonged to many gun and rod clubs.  At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or memorial service and interment will be private at the families’ convenience.
