Michaels, David G. “Pop”, 88, Johnstown, passed away Saturday February 23, 2019 at his home. Born September 16, 1930 in Beaverdale. Son of the late Ellis H. & Cecilia M. (Chirdon) Michaels. Preceded in death by his parents, and 13 siblings. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rose A. (Goggin); their children, Ann Porter (James), Somerset; Kristine Thompson, Johnstown; Karan Michaels, Vermont; Grandchildren, Dustin Michaels (Brittany Amrhein), Aaron Thompson, Thomas Lyons, and Claire Lyons; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, devoted dear-friend Rod Kendig, and other members of extended family, and friends. David proudly served our country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War. He was retired from the Conemaugh Township School District, where he was employed as a teacher. He was a member of Knights of Columbus #8979, he was also a member of the VFW in Jeannette, and the American Legion #0344. Dave loved his family; he was exceptionally proud of his teaching degree from Lock-Haven University, his semi-professional baseball career playing for the Oakland Athletics farm-club team, coaching for numerous years and his induction into “The Old-Timers Baseball Hall-of-Fame,” his Beagles; he was an avid rabbit hunter, and gardening; he grew some extraordinary tomato plants. Mr. Michaels will be remembered as a loving husband, proud father, outstanding provider; he will be dearly missed by his friends and family..”Fair Winds and Following Seas”.
