Blackner, Derry Glenn, 72, Johnstown, passed away September 5, 2019. Born February 22, 1947 to the late Frank and Anna (Ellenberger) Blackner. Preceded in death by siblings; and son, Eric Blackner. Survived by former wife, Carol Backner; daughters, Lisa Blackner; Cherie Verdenburgh and husband Glen; granddaughters, Georganna Verdenburgh and boyfriend Jarrad Johnson; Autumn Verdenburgh and fiancé Matt Shaulis; great granddaughter, Na-Ryiah Johnson; siblings, Dorothy Conzo; Gene Blackner and wife Sally; Gerry Blackner; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Brother Bob; Zach; Mark and Barb Ward; and Erma Matheson. After being employed at Bethlehem Steel, Derry owned many businesses over the years, including Forest Park Club, Loop Tavern, Bee’s Corner Auto Mart, Carol’s Forest Park Restaurant, and until his retirement Blackner’s B-29 Tavern. In the 80’s, Derry raced stock cars for Stock Team 46. He enjoyed shooting pool, going to the casino, and loved to cook. A memorial service will be held Friday September 13 at Lower Yoder Firehall at 6:30 p.m. A GoFundMe account has been set up in Derry’s memory to help with funeral expenses.
