Dolores Ann (Fletcher) Guyer, 92, known to many as “Dee,” of Johnstown, was ushered through Heaven’s gates into glory to join her beloved husband on February 21, 2023. Born on June 14, 1930, to Harry and Etta Fletcher (Livingston) in Pittsburgh, PA. Her family moved every few years during the depression era when jobs were scarce. Finally settling in Shepherdstown, WV during Dee’s high school years, this became “home” and friendships were formed that remained to present day. Dee graduated from Shepherdstown High School in 1948 as Salutatorian and went on to West Penn Nursing School to become a Registered Nurse. In 1952 Dee married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Guyer. The family settled in Johnstown, PA where Dee worked as a nurse at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for many years and later helped spearhead the Family Medical Center of Johnstown. She also worked at The Lutheran Home and provided private duty nursing. Her greatest pleasure was as a mother. Dee exemplified the Proverbs 31 wife and mother, and these were, to her, her greatest achievements. Surviving children are Rebecca Guyer of Pittsburgh, PA; Richard Ross Guyer (Jacqueline), Charleston, WV; Deborah Young (Robert) of Johnstown; and Jeffrey Dodson, Pittsburgh, PA. Dee is a long-time member of the Oakland United Methodist Church in Johnstown and served for years on numerous boards as well as a member of the choir. When she became unable to physically attend, she looked forward to visits from the shut-in ministry. Up to her last breath she was an avid prayer warrior. At her advanced age of 92, she texted her children and grandchildren. Dee is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Donna Jane Fletcher; Gene Fletcher (Betty); and Richard Fletcher (Phyllis); Survived by siblings, Barbara Getz (Harry), Murrysville, PA; and Jacqueline McCoy (Les); and her grandchildren: Addam Hummel (Fawn); Zack Edwards (Kelly); Danielle Guyer; Carissa Trent (Dustin); and Rebekah Kelly (Dakota); with 5 great grandchildren and one on the way! Her “surrogate” children and grandchildren are numerous and include her caregivers, Pat Popolo and Nikki Costlow who lovingly provided over and above their assigned duties. Her faithful “sons” Pastor Harold Spellman and Pastor Henry Davis faithfully visited and prayed for her which literally jumpstarted her spirit each time. Her “granddaughters” Amber and Quenna Curry brought sunshine and joy to her life. Dee’s hobbies included sewing at which she was truly gifted, painting, reading and she often said the very best days of her life were being at home with her 3 babies back in her early “Leave It To Beaver” years. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Details forthcoming. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
