Shirk, Donald T. Sr., 88, Vintondale, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2019. Born October 6, 1930 to the late George H. and Mamie (Woodman) Shirk. Preceded in death by his wife Doris F. (Findley); his siblings, Marion Lees, George Shirk, Jack Shirk, and Wayne Shirk; his son-in-laws, Jerry Johnson, and Tim Chappell; his brother-in-laws, Andy Lees and Fred Kochis; his sister-in-laws, Joyce Shirk, Audrey Shirk and Edie Shirk. Survived by children, Donald T. Shirk Jr. (Cindy), Nanty Glo; Karen Johnson, Nanty Glo; Mendy Shaffer (Jeffrey Sr.), Vintondale; Rick Shirk (Becky), Davidsville; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; his brother, Richard Shirk, Michigan; his sister Betty Kochis, Michigan; and his sister-in-law, Joanne Shirk, Michigan; Donald is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Donald was a laborer in the Steel mills for many years, as well as a coal miner. Donald loved fishing and hunting with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved animals, and was a leader of the Jackson Township Community 4-H club, and the former barn superintendent at Ebensburg fairgrounds, he was a diehard camper at the Liberty Township Sportsman Club, and he loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren playing sports. Friends and family will be received at Hindman Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd., on Wednesday May 8, 2019 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday May 9, 2019 at 10 AM, Pastor Richard Stock, officiating. Military honors will be provided by Menoher Post #155.
