Obituary

Elizabeth “Betta” Krisko, 93, passed peacefully at home on August 29, 2024. A native of East Conemaugh and a long-time resident of Vinco, she was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Stephan Krisko; parents, Helen and Paul Glowa; and siblings, John, Pearl, Paul, Mary, Michael, and Charles. Betta is survived by daughters Beth Krisko and Paula Krisko-Wolf, son-in-law Michael Wolf, grandchildren, Lilianna and Stephan Wolf, and many nieces and nephews.

In 1955, Betta won the title of Miss Johnstown AmVet. She was deeply proud of her career as a Judicial Secretary at the Cambria County Courthouse. Her professional journey took a courageous turn when she cooperated with federal investigators, providing crucial evidence and testimony in a high-profile case against a corrupt judge. Her bravery during these challenging times was instrumental in bringing justice.

Betta loved wearing pretty things, drinking wine with friends, and arguing passionately about politics.

The family is deeply grateful for the kindness and support of our neighbors and friends, Kenny, Carol, John, Sherry, Joanna, Steve, Chris, and Greg. We want to offer special thanks to Dr. Vijay Malhotra, whose early diagnosis of an advanced meningioma in 1984 and referral to a skilled neurosurgeon gave us 40 more years with Betta. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Windber Palliative Care and Hospice for their compassionate care and support during her later and final days.

At Betta’s request, there will be no viewing. The funeral will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Westmont with the Very Reverend George Johnson officiating. Attendees will gather at the Grandview Cemetery Administration building on September 13th by 10:00 AM, then proceed to the grave site. After the funeral, there will be a memorial service at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church.

The family asks that instead of flowers or food please donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Betta’s favorite charity. You can also remember Betta by dressing up in something pretty, enjoying a glass of wine, preferably Merlot, with those you love, and voting for—well, if you know Betta, you’ll know who she would tell you to vote for in November. ;). We love you and will miss you, Mom. May your memory be eternal.
