Varnish, George, 83, Johnstown, died Aug. 7, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Born April 26, 1934 to the late Michael and Anna (Vuckovich) Varnish. Preceded in death by brothers, Ron, Mitch, Mike, Daniel “Dush”; and sisters, Marlene and Delores. Survived by sons, David Varnish and wife, Electa; Kevin Varnish and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Adison, Lewk, and Faith Varnish; Abby and Santino Disabato; sister, Vida Penrod; special niece, Diana Sager; and numerous other nieces and nephews. George was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and member of the American Legion. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Columbus Business College and was an accountant for the Dept. of Labor and Commerce. George enjoyed bowling and was an amateur baseball player. He was a big fan of the Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers. George was also a member of the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church. Friends will be received Fri. Aug. 11 from 3-7 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion, 114 Main St, Johnstown, PA 15901.
