Pepoy, George William, 85, of Bedford, passed away March 30, 2019 at his home after a lengthy illness. Born March 16, 1934 in Johnstown he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Pastor) Pepoy. Also preceded siblings, Marie Ambrose, John Pepoy, Joseph Pepoy, Ann Franze, and Irene Burkey. Survived by wife of 48 years, Inga (Schrader) Pepoy, whom he married July 18, 1970. Also survived by daughters, Nina M. Pepoy, Bedford; Sonia K. Haney (Dr. Brian), East Greenbush, NY; 4 grandchildren, Rachel, Laura, Nathan, and Brooke Haney; brother, Steve Pepoy, St. Michael; sisters, Elizabeth Mihalko, Johnstown; Katherine Wilkie, Warminster and many nieces and nephews. George graduated from Conemaugh Valley in 1953, earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1957 and a master’s degree from Wayne State in 1974. He also served in the US Army from 1957-1959. He taught high school Physical Education for 2 years in Baltimore. In 1961 he was hired by the Department of Defense to teach in Germany at Bremerhaven American High School. In 1968 he was transferred to Berlin, Germany and began teaching at Berlin American High School. For more than twenty years he was a successful football coach initially for the Bremerhaven Blackhawks and later the Berlin Bears. He retired in 1994 and he and his wife moved to Bedford in 1995. A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Church, Bedford, PA on Friday April 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. Private burial will be at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Hungarian Church Cemetery in Windber, PA at a later date.
