Penrod, Harry M. Jr., 86, Palm Coast, FL, formerly of Johnstown, passed away September 17, 2017 at Emory L. Bennet Veteran’s Home in Daytona Beach, FL after living many years with Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Johnstown, PA on January 2, 1931, he was a lifelong resident there until December 2016 when he and his wife relocated to Palm Coast, FL.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry M. and Iona C. (Swartzentruver) Penrod, and sister, Shirley Penrod Bechtel Wells. Harry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sara Jean (Belz) Penrod; son Louis (Alisa) Penrod of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Diane (Scott) Decker of Olympia, WA; daughter Pauline (John) Thomason of Anderson, SC; son Michael (Beth) Penrod of Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren Ashley, Claire (Alexander), Mary Kathryn (Daniel), James, and Louis. He is also survived by brothers Donald (Marlene) Penrod and Burger (Dee Ann) Penrod, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. After graduating from Johnstown High School in 1948, Harry proudly served in the United States Coast Guard for 3 ½ years. He was an electrician and electrical instructor for 33 years at Bethlehem Steel. He then worked doing general maintenance for 10 years at the Tribune Publishing Company. Harry was a man of great faith with many unique talents which he enjoyed sharing and gifting with others. As a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Johnstown, he shared his beautiful voice in the choir, served as a Sunday school teacher and chairman of the property committee and other various committees.  He was a member of the Lutheran Men’s League that volunteered on a regular basis at Camp Sequanota, Jennerstown. He was affiliated for 45 years with former Boy Scout Troop 23 as both a Scout and Scoutmaster. Harry was a member of the American Legion and the Korean Service Veterans of Pennsylvania. Harry touched many lives with his handyman and woodcraft skills. He will be remembered for his woodworking passion and the many irreplaceable gifts which he graciously shared with all. Harry will always be remembered for his desire and willingness to offer his handyman skills to those in need. Friends and family will be received Visitation Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave, with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 155 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 25 at 11 a.m., Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 600 Ash Street, Johnstown, officiated by Pastor Toby Holland and David Finney.
