Berndt, Helen M., 70, Richland, went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus, November 12, 2018 at Harmony House Manor. Born March 26, 1948 in Johnstown to the late Paul R. and Margaret M. (Hunsinger) Berndt. Preceded in death by brother, Robert Berndt; sister, Anna Berndt; and brother-in-law, Ronald Mintmier. Survived by sister, Jane Mintmier; sister-in-law, Rhoda Berndt; nieces and nephews, Mark Mintmier; Kris (Mintmier) married to Andy Hoover, and their children, Lilly and Maddy; Robin (Berndt) married to Matt Pyle, and their children, Sierra, Logan, and Sienna; Rebecca Berndt and Jeremy Debias, and their children, Ayden and Bentley; and her very best friend of many years, Judy Weaver and husband Dolph, who was faithfully there for Helen supporting her through the best and worst days of her life. Helen was a 1966 graduate of Richland High School and a 1971 graduate of Crown College (formerly St. Paul Bible College) Minnesota. She lived in Minnesota for several years before moving back to Johnstown in 1975. She retired from Conemaugh Hospital in 2015 after 40 years of service. Helen was a lifetime member of the Johnstown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and served in a variety of ministries and leadership roles. She especially loved working with the (Bible) quiz teams and teaching Bible and Sunday School. She also attended the Richland Christian Church in recent years and loved the people and Pastor Bob and wife Pam, with whom she shared some history of working at Conemaugh Hospital. Helen loved people, loved being friendly and social, and she was good at it. She was a very giving person who would do anything she could to help anyone in need, always giving and sharing. But one great love of her life was her cats. They were her 4-legged children and she loved spoiling them. In lieu of flowers, it would please Helen greatly for you to make donations to Dr. Lynn Sanderson at Richland Veterinary Hospital to care for underprivileged pets in need, 1003 Eisenhower Blvd. Johnstown, PA 15904. Friends will be received Friday November 16 from 1-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd., where a service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans & Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
