Williams, James B., (Jim) 94, Johnstown, passed away January 1, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center. Born September 20, 1925 in Richmond Hill, NY. Son of the late Howard and Emily (Waskow) Williams. Preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Anita (Falzoni) Williams; his son Thomas R. Williams; and his brothers, Theodore and Bertram. Survived by his beloved daughters, Jenny Lynne Williams, Johnstown; Wendy Stewart (Tom), Windber; grandchildren; Lindsay and Jessica; nieces, Kim Stryker, (FL) Emily Soule, (MD), and nephew, Carl Williams (FL.) James served our country in the Pacific during WWII in the United States Navy and spoke with great pride of being a veteran. He graduated from Principia College, worked in millinery retail, and eventually as owner of the J. Williams Company based in Ohio. Jim later retired with his wife, Anita, to Johnstown and built a home to be near family and to enjoy being active in their granddaughter’s lives. He served as Board President of NAMI Cambria County for many years, having led the organization in its mission to serve individuals and families whose lives were affected by mental illness. Jim will be fondly remembered for his kindness and vision, developing a robust membership, and implementing the first NAMI Education and Support programs in Cambria County. As the most senior and singular male member of a Book Club he enjoyed attending along with his daughters, Jim will be lovingly remembered by all for his good natured humor and for providing a uniquely-male perspective from another generation, and most memorably, for emphatically promoting less “girly books.” Lastly, with a final quip and a smile, Jim would have wanted to say a special thank you to the staff at Westmont Woods for the love and care he received in the last few years. Friends received from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:00 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. 1521 Frankstown Road, Rev. Daryl Penrod of Elton Zion United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Cresson Lake Playhouse, PO Box 368, Ebensburg, PA 15931 in his memory. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
