Milchak, James E. “Jim”, 89, Hastings, joined the Angels in heaven on March 10, 2019 at home on the farm, after the passing of his wife “Dolly” only 18 days ago. Jim had a history of heart problems, but the family feels it is truly broken heart syndrome. Jim was born on November 13, 1929, in Hastings, son of Anthony F Milchak and Catherine Bendzella. Jim grew up with 7 brothers & sisters: Joseph Milchak, John B. Milchak, George Milchak, Elizabeth A. Depto, Stephen G. Milchak, Marie A. Tomallo, Pauline D. “Toots” Stosky Buck, all of whom have preceded him in death. He married the love of is life Rosezella M “Dolly” Westover in 1954 with whom he spent 64 hardworking but joyous years. It was always great to see our parents holding hands and kissing in between the raising of 4 children; James R. “Jr.” married Becky Adams; Grace A & Dan Emert; Elizabeth A. “Betsy” married to Craig Fisher and then Jeff Winter; & Philip A. Milchak, all on the Westover Family Homestead, now known as the Milchak Farm located on Ridge Road, below East Ridge Cemetery. Jim only went to the 8th grade but that didn’t stop him from being a Jack of many trades. At a very young age he went to work to help support the family like so many did back then, his first job was drift mining with Milchak Coal Company, and numerous other mines for over 32 years including longer terms at Rich Hill, Barnes & Tucker and Greenrich Colleries. His next passion was Beef & Dairy Farming which he was very successful at. At one time he worked the farm and mining, both full time jobs. During his farming years he also worked for American Breeders Service, breeding cows & selling products in & throughout the area. He also sold seed corn for Jacques and was also a professional welder & salesman who helped his friends and neighbors with his talent of welding items that broke. When Jim was not working then he enjoyed fishing and hunting big & small game, with rifle, muzzleloader and bow & arrow. Part of the garage and throughout their home is filled with his trophies of whitetail deer, elk, bear, caribou, moose, mountain goat & antelope. He took numerous hunting trips out west, Canada and Alaska. For many years he would take his 4-wheeler to the woods and sit and enjoying nature and all the wildlife. He was a grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as an uncle to numerous nieces & nephews, great nieces and nephews. Jim was not highly educated but he made up for it in hard work one of his favorites sayings was “he never heard anyone dying from working too hard.” Friends and family will be received from 4 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home, 333 Beaver St. Hastings, PA. Friends & family will also be received at St. Bernard Catholic Church on Thursday March 14, 2019 from 10 AM until the time of the funeral mass at 11 AM. Father Thaddeus Rettger OSB, Officiating. Interment will be in the East Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Jim to the American Heart Association.
