James Edward Veney entered eternal rest October 18, 2020 in Johnstown, PA. He was 89 years of age. James was the first born to the late Wilbur Lee Veney and Bertha Marie (Wallace) Veney. He was predeceased by brothers Wilbur Lee Veney, Jr., William Veney, and Robert Lee Veney. James served in the US Army from January 13, 1949 until January 31, 1969. He retired after 20 years of honorable military service with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his tenure he was stationed in Thailand, Guam, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, California, Colorado, Georgia, New York, Maryland, and Virginia. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Harriet Johnson of Temple Hills MD, daughter Sharon Veney of Washington DC, son Vance Birkley, sisters Helen (Veney) Johnson of Johnstown, PA, Elaine Roebuck of Indiana, PA; brother William Roebuck of Johnstown, PA, sister-in-law Betty (Jefferson) Veney of Leesburg, VA, four generations of nieces & nephews, countless cousins and very dear lifelong friends John and Mattie Jackson of Hyattsville, Maryland. The family is forever grateful for the loving care provided by the staffs of Harmony House Manor and AseraCare Hospice of Johnstown, PA. A private memorial service will be held November 7, 2020.
