Grech, James J., 89, Johnstown, passed away July 24, 2017 at Windber Hospice. Born Oct. 2, 1927, to the late Andrew and Veronica “Minnie” (Carroll) Grech. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Doris J. (Maurer); grandson, Buddy Grech; and siblings, Francis and Andrew Grech; and Mary Lou Blythe. Survived by children, Jeannine; Patricia; and Richard Grech and wife, Deborah; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie, Michael, Jennifer, and Elise; seven great grandchildren; and siblings, Dorothy McCleary; Betty Campbell; William Grech; Eleanor Pekich; Evelyn Orlosky; Dolores Grech; Ruth Forrish; and Robert Grech. James was a US Navy Veteran and member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He celebrated his 18^th Birthday in the Philippines Island where he was a member of the PT Boat Squad as a Coxswain. He loved the outdoors, mountains, and hunting deer. James retired from GTE after 36 years of service and worked at Grandview Cemetery when he was younger. He was a member of the YMCA since he was 15. He enjoyed playing golf at Berkley Hills and Pleasant Valley, and would assemble his own golf clubs and repaired them for family and friends. Friends will be received July 26 from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rev. Susan Mentzer, officiating.
