SHEARMAN – Jay I., 84, of Johnstown, died on February 26, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center .Born October 29, 1931, in Johnstown, son of the late Darrell I. and Ena (Orner) Shearman. Preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 55 years Elizabeth V. “Betty” (Rhoades), his brothers James and Jack, and great granddaughter Loralei.  Survived by his son Jeffrey Shearman and wife Bonnie, Johnstown; his daughter Beth Ann married to David Burkett, Johnstown; grandchildren, Heather married to Chris Mack, Bradley Shearman and wife Kayla, Justin Shearman, Scott Burkett, and Edward Burkett all of Johnstown; great grandchildren Landon, Jordyn, and Brayden Shearman.  Jay was a Navy Veteran and worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where he was also a member of the church choir, and United Methodist Men. Jay was also a firefighter with the Lower Yoder Volunteer Fire Company for 66 years, where he responded to over 7000 alarms.  Jay touched the lives of everyone he met. Friends received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. 1521 Frankstown Rd. A funeral Service will be held Thursday 11a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, Pastor Wendy Henderson, officiating.
