Obituary
Palm, Jeffrey R., 59, Johnstown, passed away March 29, 2020. Born February 13, 1961. Preceded in death by father, Ron E. Palm. Survived by mother, Alicia Palm; brother, Keith Palm; and beloved friend, Lynne Weaver. Jeff is a 1979 graduate of Richland High School. He served in the 876th Engineer Bn. HHC.PA. Army National Guard as a Tactical Wire Specialist from 1981-1987. Jeff’s education consisted of Combination Welding at Dean Institute of Technology; Wilderness Search and Rescue, Harrisburg Community College; Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning, Admiral Perry Vo-Tech; Effective Facility Management, Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute; OSHA 2264, OSHA 3115, WVU. Jeff was employed by Johnstown American Corporation as a Production Welder, 1993-1995; D.C.N.R.- Linn Run State Park, Carpenter/Crew Leader 1989-2004; D.P.W. Ebensburg Center, Carpenter 2004-2010, Carpenter Foreman 2010-2013, Facility Maintenance Manager I 2013-2020. Jeff served his community as a PA Search and Rescue First Responder; District 4 Assistant Instructor of Wildland Firefighter Courses; PA Specialized Forest Fire Crew; Somerset Westmorland Forest Fire Warden; Somerset County Search and Rescue; Bedford County Wilderness Search Team; Red Knights PA Chapter; Wildland Firefighter- Colorado, Utah and Idaho wilderness fires. In addition to Jeff’s community involvement he was an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed his work as a ski instructor at Seven Springs and competed to be on the US Olympic Ski Team in Lake Placid in 1991. Jeff was a strong ice and rock climber, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hiking, watching the Pens, Formula I, and IndyCar racing. Above all, Jeff was a passionate, dedicated and quite disciplined competitive cyclist for over 35 years. He was a member of Laurel Mountain Velo and more recently, President of the Flood City Velo Cycling Team. The family would like to thank Rebecca Bosak and Kindred Hospice for the care they provided to Jeff. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
