Milavec, John A. “Smokey”, 83 of Johnstown passed away at his home in Bon Air April 9, 2019.  Born October 6, 1935 to the late John A. and Leona (Brence) Milavec, John is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mildred (Rykala) Milavec and his sister, Jean Stefanik. Survived by sister, Louise Brezovic; children, Bernadine Rodak (husband Tim) and John A. Milavec Jr.; grandchildren, Tim and Stephanie Rodak; and numerous nieces and nephews. John attended primary school in Bon Air and graduated from Franklin High School. After serving 8 years in the U.S. Air Force he went to Indiana University of Pennsylvania for undergraduate studies and continued to the University of Pittsburgh where he graduated with a Master of Education degree. Many know John as a business education teacher at Conemaugh Valley where he taught high school students for 34 years. In addition to teaching, John served as a board director for Slovenian Savings & Loan Association where he helped lead the business as well as provide banking opportunities for the local community. Outside of the classroom and boardroom, John was an avid hunter, fisherman, and involved in various sportsman’s clubs and shooting competitions. John’s commitment to the outdoors was recognized with over 40 years of service as a Pennsylvania Deputy Wildlife Conservation Officer. Family and friends will be received Sunday, April 14 from 1-5 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes &. Crematory, Inc.,1521 Frankstown Road. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 15 at St. Barnabas Church, Bon Air. Interment will conclude at St. Michael Cemetery.
