Zlato, John D. 96, died Nov. 29, 2017 at Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin PA. Born Aug. 25, 1921 in Johnstown, son of the late Stephen and Veronica (Bohna) Zlatohlavy. Preceded in death by brothers, Stephen, Frank, and Victor; and sister, Helen Sojak. Survived by wife, Mina (Mack); son, Stephen J. married to Amanda (Weigle); grandson, Max S. Zlato, who resides in Leesburg, VA; niece, Gloria Miller; nephew, Jim Sojak; and dog companions, Maynard and Keno. John served as an Army medic in WWII and retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. He enjoyed sailing, skiing, and traveling. John formally volunteered at the West End Food Pantry, at funeral dinners, and grounds care at Zion Lutheran Church. All arrangements will be held privately at the convenience of the family. If you wish, memorial contributions may be made to the ELCA World Hunger, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, P.O.
