Obituary

Owens, Lawrence E. “Red”, 84, Johnstown, died January 13, 2019 at Richland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 14, 1934 to the late John R. and Grace E. (Gavin) Owens. Preceded in death by wife, Lois Jean Owens; and siblings, Lois M. Kresse; Rose M. Varner; and Russell L. Owens. Survived by children, Mary Ann Shostek and husband Matthew, AZ; Gary P. Owens and wife Mary, TX; Scott Owens, PA; granddaughter, Jessica Broxterman and husband Christopher, OR; great granddaughter, Ada Jean Broxterman; six nieces and two nephews, including Barbara Jean (Varner) Brown. Red was an electrician at Bethlehem Steel, freight car division. After retiring from Bethlehem Steel, he drove a kindertran bus for Forest Hills School District. Red was an avid bowler and enjoyed ten-pin and duckpin. Friends will be received Friday January 18 from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd., followed by a funeral mass at 1 p.m. at St. John Gualbert Cathedral. Committal at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
