Ponchek, Lewis Melvin, 80, Johnstown, passed away November 9, 2021 at UPMC Shadyside. Born May 18, 1941. Son of the late Melvin F. and Thelma R. (Kudel) Ponchek. Survived by loving wife of 57 years, Lois J. (Schaffer); son, Randy D. Ponchek (Amy), Evans City, PA; son, Roger A. Ponchek (Tracie), Zelienople, PA; sisters, Dolores George (Barry), Janet Ritter (Joe), and Marlene Kotch (Kevin), all of Johnstown; and 3 grandchildren, Riley, Noah, and Reagan. Lewis proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Reserve, 876 Engineering Battalion. He retired as a crane operator from Bethlehem Steel and 11 Inch Mill. He enjoyed woodworking, computers, and welding, and was a member of St. Barnabas Church. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2-8 p.m., Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd., Johnstown, PA 15902. A funeral mass will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 408 Luzon Ave, Johnstown, PA 15902, Father Elue officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
