Hornyak Malvina Obit Pic 2

Malvina Margaret (Marge) Hornyak, 105, died on September 18, 2021, at the Allegheny Lutheran Home in Johnstown. Born March 5, 1916, Marge was one of five children (John, Steve, Joseph, Helen) to the late John and Julia Sarvash of Cassandra, Pa.
The beloved wife of the late Vincent Hornyak of Portage, Pa. Marge as a young widow faced the challenge of raising two boys, ages 5 and 12. She is survived by two sons, Leonard (Barbara) Hornyak of Venice, Florida, and Raymond (Beverly) Hornyak of Westmont, Pa. Marge was proud of her seven grandchildren, two-step-grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, six great step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was a familiar figure in Portage for her longtime service as the Portage school cafeteria manager, Crichton McCormick Park swimming pool manager, Portage Food Pantry officer, work for the Red Cross bloodmobile and Portage Band Mothers. As a tribute to her volunteer service Marge was honored as Grand Marshal of the Annual Portage Thanksgiving Parade. A lifetime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Lilly, Pa, and the First Lutheran Church of Portage, she often accompanied on the piano and sang in the choir. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and preparing Hungarian specialties. Marge survived two pandemics and lived a long and healthy life with many family adventures.
Our family is grateful for the compassionate care Marge received from the staff of the Lutheran Home of Johnstown, and Dr. Maharajh. Due to Covid -19 restrictions and Marge’s wishes, services will be private. Donations in Marge’s name can be made to the Allegheny Lutheran Home of Johnstown and the First Lutheran Church of Portage.
