SLAGLE—Mary Elizabeth “Dolly”, age 90, Westwood, died peacefully September 17, 2022, at Windber Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Born June 3, 1932, in Johnstown, to Helen (Gigliotti) and Joseph R. Scaletta. Preceded in death by parents, husband of 44 years David Brockman Slagle, infant daughter Kathleen, and sisters Anna Maria Mangus and Eva Lucie Gallucci. Survived by sons, David (Lorraine), Livingston, Texas, Thomas (Sally), Boca Raton, Florida, and Joseph (Carol), Westwood; grandchildren, Katharine “Katie” Slagle R.N., Decatur, Georgia, Krista Leigh Jones (Stu), Temple, Texas, Dr. Grant Slagle, Tarpon Springs, Florida, Jonathan Slagle, Houston, Texas, and Jenna Leigh Cox (Cody), Austin, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Harper Leigh Jones, Archer David Jones and Stevie Leigh Cox; also survived by brother, Samuel A. Scaletta of Johnstown, and loving nieces and nephews. Dolly earned her college degree at the age of 44 and worked as a registered nurse for 20 years at the former Lee Hospital until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed her retirement traveling the world with her good friend, the late Glory Grattan. Dolly was an avid reader, baker and Italian cook and was a patron of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra. The family is grateful to Patty Poole, who provided invaluable friendship and care to Dolly in her later years. In keeping with Dolly’s wishes, there will be no viewing or service, but the family encourages all her friends to eat a piece of cake in her honor. Memorial contributions may be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, Pa. Burial to take place at Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum.
