Diehl, Mary I., 92, Johnstown, was called home to be with our Lord on May 7, 2018. Born November 30, 1925, in West Newton, PA, daughter of the late Clarence H. and Mary L. (Shearer) Brown. Preceded in death by husband, Peter R. Diehl Sr.; and brothers, Richard H. and Charles W. Brown. Survived by son, Peter R. Diehl Jr. married to Marilynn (Salem Holt); grandchildren, Lisa M. Yeloushan married to Chuck, Murrysville; Jason D. Diehl married to Heidi (Pyle), Friedens; Erica McCullough married to William, Trivose; Gary Holt Jr. married to Tina, Johnstown; great grandson, Nicholas Aaron Diehl; and sister, Lucille (Brown) Rowles, Baltimore. A 1943 graduate of Johnstown High School. Mrs. Diehl was employed by National Radiator/Crane Co. (1944-1965). In 1965 the company relocated their offices to Chicago and Mary elected to remain in Johnstown. She was subsequently hired by Bethlehem Steel Corporation (1965-1983). Mrs. Diehl retired from Bethlehem Steel’s Johnstown Plant as office manager/cashier in the accounting department. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of Bethlehem’s Management Club. For a short period, she did volunteer work at the David M. Glosser Library in their reference department. In 1965, she ended her retirement by starting to work at the Johnstown Corporation. Mary left Johnstown Corporation as Vice Present Administration and Corporate Secretary in 1991. Subsequently she was employed as Executive Assistant to John E. Sheehan until mid-1998. Mary was member of Grove Avenue United Methodist Church, having served in many areas of the church in past years. She was also a member of REBCO, Friends of the Library, Johnstown Area Heritage Assoc., The Johnstown High School Class or 1943 Reunion Planning Committee, Johnstown High School Alumni Assoc., and the Community Arts Center, a member of the Planning Committee for the Annual Kernville Reunion. At Mary’s request, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received Saturday May 12 from 10:30 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11 a.m. at Grove Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 Grove Avenue. Rev. Dirk Wooten, officiating.
