Horner, Mary Jane “Janie” (Malzi) , went home to the Lord on April 14, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Aug. 9, 1930, in Conemaugh Township, Cambria County, daughter of the late Herman A. and Francis J. (Jackson) Malzi. Preceded in death by husband, Robert R. Horner Sr.; brothers, Chester, Matthew and Harold; sister, Agnes Palmer; and granddaughter, Pamela Fitzpatrick. Survived by children, Robert R. Horner Jr., married to Debbie Griffin; William A. Horner, married to Theresa Messina; and Thomas A. Horner, all of Johnstown; and Roberta J. Horner, Pleasant Gap; grandchildren, Carri, married to David Rice; Christine, married to Joel Bailey; and Anthony and Leona Horner, all of Johnstown; Cynthia Rabbers, Pleasant Gap; Daniel, married to Juliana Almeda, Brasilia, Brazil; and Suzi, married to Adam Neidig, Williamsport; great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Isaac and Livia Parks; Zachary and Caleb Petrunak; Elica Rice; Courtney Horner; Brynn and Mallory Fitzpatrick; Bruno Rabbers of Brazil; and Kaylie Ann and Wyatt Neidig, Williamsport; also brother, LeRoy Malzi, Johnstown; lifetime friend, Betty Walter; and good friend, Mary Cunningham. Member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served on council, taught catechism and Sunday church school, Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Knotty Ladies Quilting group. Lifetime member of the Cover Hill Volunteer Fire Company, where she served as secretary and EMT. Recent recipient of community Jefferson Award for public service. Member of Cover Hill Fire Company and Cambria County Ladies Auxiliary, YWCA, Senior Activities Center Golden Strutter Line Dancers and former Girl Scout leader. Graduate of Johnstown High School in 1948. Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Road. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, the Rev. Michael VanDyke, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Special Gifts Fund or Cover Hill Volunteer Fire Company.
