Mary Jane Matolyak, 91, of Johnstown passed away Friday October 27, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center. Born August 21, 1932, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Duray) Bacha. Preceded in death by husband, Michael Matolyak Sr. Survived by son, Michael Matolyak Jr. (Joye), daughters, Marian Leverknight, Marlene Matolyak; sister, Anna Catherine Holtzman, grandchildren, Kelly Faulkner (James), Kristin Moore (Aaron), Lori Leverknight, Courtney Matolyak, and Dr. Lindsay Matolyak (AJ Ferraz); great grandchildren, Sophia, Reese, Clark and Felix. Mary Jane worked as a court stenographer. She also worked at Westwood School Cafeteria and managed HeadStart during the summer months. She worked at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital for many years. She was active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, West Suburban Little League Baseball, former Vice President of the PTA at Lower Yoder Township School, and member of Ladies Auxiliary Westwood Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of Christ the Saviour Cathedral where she was involved in the Mothers and Daughters Club, the church choir, and Senior Club. She leaves behind a legacy of love, and helping everyone, and always giving of herself, which will be felt for future generations to come. Friends will be received at the Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Avenue on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, from 2 to 5 p.m. Panachida at 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, 312 Garfield Street, Johnstown, with Very Reverend Protopresbyter Robert A. Buczak celebrant. Burial will follow at Christ the Saviour Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cambria County Animal Shelter.
