Burgess, Michael Lane, 72, Johnstown, passed away July 11, 2020 at Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home. Born November 18, 1947 to the late W. Kenneth and Shirley (Martin) Burgess. Preceded in death by sister, Missie Glovach, and brother in law, Bill Bloom. Survived by wife of 50 years, Mary Ann (Hahn) Burgess; children, Laurie Blasko (Donald Sr.); Michael S. and Timothy P. Burgess; grandsons, Donny Blasko Jr. (Ava Genovese); Scott Blasko (Brenna Irvin); Adam Blasko; great grandsons, Dominick and Gabriel Blasko; sisters, Keri Bloom; Kim Jerasa (Donald); and brothers-in-law, L. John Hahn (Carole); and Frank Glovach. Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was River Boat Captain in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Navy Commendation Medal. After serving in the Navy, Michael worked at Verizon for 38 years. He was the former fire chief for Brownstown Volunteer Fire Co., former captain of the West Hills Regional Fire Dept., and past chairman of the Board of Stackhouse Park. He participated in PA BASS Anglers, was youth director for the state, and was an avid Ferndale follower. A special thank you to Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home Arnold Hall second floor West, for all their special care. Friends will be received Wed. July 15 from 2-8 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thurs. at Our Mother of Sorrows Church. Burial and military honors to follow at Grandview. Family has asked that attendees please practice social distancing and to wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Disabled American Veterans, 1000 Liberty Ave # 1606, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, the ladder fund at West Hills Regional Fire Co., or St. Michael’s or OMOS parishes.
