Balionis Nadine Obit Pic

Nadine Grace Balionis, 89, passed away February 10, 2021, at Amber Springs Assisted Living in Westmont. Born in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Theodore and Anastasia (Drozd-Schmandrak) Hrynishyn, she lived in Richland since 1966. A 1949 graduate of South Hills HS, she worked as a secretary prior to starting her family. She returned to work as the Richland Elementary Schools secretary in 1970, welcoming thousands of young students, until her retirement in 1993. After retirement, she stayed active, working part-time in the medical office of Dr Boroumand in Windber, and volunteering with numerous charitable groups. An avid traveler, and talented craftsperson, she filled her home with mementos of her trips and examples of her art. Independent, opinionated, strong-willed, vivacious, and personable, she was a deeply caring mother and open-hearted grandmother, with an amazing ability to make new friends wherever she went, and stayed a true and generous friend to the many she held close. She will be fondly remembered and genuinely missed by all. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William, in 2013, and her son Gregory, in 2018; her sisters Catherine McMinn, Ann Downie, Mary Allshouse, and her brother Stephen Schmandrak. Nadine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kay (Harris) of Fairfield, CT, and their children, Alex, Ben, and Julia; and daughter-in-law Sylvia (Vogg) of Houston, TX, and her children, Lauren, Andrew, and Adrienne; as well as nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Arizona. Arrangements are in care of Hindman Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. At her request, no viewing or service will be held. Donations in her memory may be made to cancer or diabetes foundations. A celebration of her life will be held later in the year. Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
