Newsom, (Benshoff) Nan M., 86, passed away November 27, 2016 in Virginia Beach, VA surrounded by her loving family. Born July 18, 1930 in Johnstown, PA she was the daughter of the late Perry W. and Blanche (Miller) Cooper. Nan was preceded in death by her first husband of 41 years, Ray Benshoff in 1998, and her second husband of 14 years, Donald Newsom in 2016, as well as her brothers Johnny Cooper and Francis Cooper. She is survived by her son Gregg Benshoff and his wife Sonya (Huss); daughter Kimberly Benshoff; grandson Alex Benshoff and his wife Ashely (Drabik); and granddaughter Courtney Rae Fye all of Virginia Beach, VA; siblings Roberta Zolbe of Littlestown, PA; James Cooper of Salix, PA; and Russell Cooper of Jacksonville, FL; as well as her step-daughters; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. Nan was a graduate of Johnstown High School and a local telephone operator for GTE. She was a warm-hearted mother and special friend to all she met. She enjoyed riding her motorcycle, fishing in the pond, and traveling to sunny Florida to spend winters with close friends. Nan was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Johnstown, PA. Friends will be received 10 a.m. Friday at William T. Hindman Funeral Home, Chandler Avenue, with a funeral service at 11 a.m., Pastor Nancy Hoover officiating.
