Makuchan, Richard, 73, passed away on November 19, 2022, in his hometown, Johnstown, PA. Preceded in death by parents, Irene (Kasper) and Paul Makuchan of Woodvale. Survived by brothers, Edward (Karlice Newmyer), Johnstown; Ronald (Kathy Rice), Johnstown; and nephew, Brandon Makuchan (Brooke Rhoades), Ebensburg. Richard graduated from Greater Johnstown High School in 1967 and received his B.A. degree from California State Teachers’ College, 1974, majoring in Special Education, minoring in Speech Pathology. He received honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps. Richard began his career working as a clerk at Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Johnstown, and taught Special Education in the Johnstown School District. He moved to Clearwater, Florida and taught Special Education in the Pinellas County Schools, retiring in 2013 and returned to Johnstown in 2021. He enjoyed eating at Coney Island (breakfast cooked by Chris), Gallina’s Pizza (John’s potato soup), Murphy’s (Paul’s cheeseburgers and wings), and drinking Caffe Americano’s from Starbucks. He was a big fan of AAABA baseball and the Johnstown Tomahawks (former season ticket holder). A sincere thank you with much gratitude goes to EG Associates, the Veterans Administration in Johnstown, The Atrium, Maple Winds Healthcare, and the personal care staff, nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy, social services, business office and others of Richland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in the services they provided to Richard.
