Polca, Rita, 90, Johnstown, passed away November 20, 2016 at Windber Hospice. Born April 3, 1926 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Giuseppi and Giovanna (Gigliotti) Alessandro. Preceded in death by husband of 57 years, Otto Polca; and sister, Serafina Alessandro. Survived by daughter, Deborah Polca, Norfolk, VA; son, Andrew Polca (Sherry), Slatington, PA; brothers, Tony Alessandro, Johnstown, and John Alessandro (Angela), Cleveland, OH; sisters, Mary Ramirez (William), Johnstown, and Viola Najjar, Johnstown; sisters-in law, Patricia Polca, Maumee, OH, and Janet Dolinsky, Lititz, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and god children. Rita managed the Garfield Jr. High School cafeteria for many years. She was very family oriented, was a Steelers and Cowboys fan, and enjoyed watching football and basketball games on television. A special thank you to family members, neighbors, and special friends for helping her stay independent in her home. Also, a special thank you to Windber Hospice staff for their care. Family and friends will be received Friday from 3-7 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Church, 124 Maple Ave., Johnstown, PA 15901, Rev. Matthew E. Misurda, officiating. Entombment at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Windber Hospice at 600 Somerset Ave, Windber, PA 15963 or to Proclaim! TV Ministry at P.O. Box 807, Johnstown, PA 15907, which spotlights news and happenings in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, as well as broadcasts Sunday morning Mass.
