Obituary

Owens, Ronald J., 85, Sidman, died April 28, 2018 at Maple Winds in Portage. Born April 19, 1933 in Windber. Son of the late Roy and Thelma (Owens) Roberts. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Wilma J. (Lewis) Owens, who died January 10, 2015. His father died in a car accident after Ron’s birth and his mother died when he was 3 years old from asthma. He was raised by his aunt Jean and his grandfather, Robert Owens, who changed his name to Owens. Jean then married Tom Barber. Survived by sons, Eric married to Sandy (Hull), Florida, and Brian married to Lee Ann (Martin), Sidman; daughters, Cynthia married to Curtis Settle, Sproul, and Melissa married to Michael Olson, Maryland; grandchildren, Wendy, Jason, Ronald, Katherine, Christy, Michelle married to James Moss, Billy, Olivia, and Liam; 7 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joann Lewis; nephew, Ron Lewis; and special friend, Mildred Burkett. Ron graduated from Adams Township in 1951. After graduation, he completed Penn State’s Extension Course for Farris Metalitgal Engineering and retired from U.S. Steel after 32 years. He was a member of the St. Michael American Legion. At Ron’s request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
