STEPHENSON – Ronald J. “Ron/Steve”, died January 2, 2015 at home.  Born March 1, 1930 in Johnstown.  Son of the late James Jr. and Ruth (Benson).  Also preceded in death by sister, Judith Ann; wife, Rita L. (Horne).  Survived by children, Richard J. and wife Katherine (Koop), David B. and wife Joan (Wojnaroski), Ronda L. and husband Michael Kovalcik, and Jonathan H.  Ron has 5 grandchildren; Jamie, Corey, Jaison, Andrew, and Joseph; and 6 great grandchildren; Alexis, Austin, Zoe, Sophie, Ava, and Haley.  Ron is also survived by his very special friend and companion, Marlene Daniels.  Ron was a “Newsman”.  He was the pioneer of television news to “millions atop the Alleghenies.” During his 34 year career as a TV news announcer and director, Ron received scores of awards on the local, state, and federal levels for excellence in journalism, community service, and the advancement of Johnstown.  Ron served as a Cambria County Commissioner for 2 terms from 1984-1992.  No matter the who, what, or when, we could count on Ron Stephenson to “Tell it like it is”.  At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing.  Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave.
