Real, Samuel Leo, 96, Portage, PA. Died at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center on November 24, 2021. Born February 10, 1925, son of Emmanuel and Adeline Real. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Cecil, Albert, and Joseph; sisters, Margaret (Steve) Costo and Victoria (Paul) Newfield; nephews Edward Newfield, James A. Costo, Joseph Costo, and Samuel Costo. Survived by nephew, Steve (Sandy) Costo; nieces, Paula Kay and Sandra Newfield and Patricia (Bruce) Robel, who was like a daughter to Sam. Sam served in the USMC Airborne Division from 1941-1945. He enlisted when he was 17, left high school, and later got his high school diploma. He served two tours in China and one in Japan during WWII. Sam was a member of the Portage VFD, American Legion, Point Lookout Camp and Portage Sportsmen. Sam was blessed to have had Sam Timura and his sons in his life. They checked on him daily and took care of the things Sam couldn’t. Also, some mighty fine neighbors. Sam lived his life on his own terms. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or services. He was a simple man with an enormous heart for giving.
