Bates, Shirley Mae (Delusa), 81, Johnstown, passed away peacefully on December 9, with her niece Gina (Delusa) Vitalie by her side at Somerset Hospital. Born May 6, 1940, in Johnstown, daughter of Rocco and Margret (Varner) Delusa. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Bates; brothers Nunzio “Jumbo”, Eugene, Charles, Alfred, and Richard; sister Mary Jane Dunlap; brother in laws Roy Dunlap, and Alfred Jimerson; sister in laws Kathleen Delusa, Mary Delusa, Joan Delusa and Darlene Delusa. Survived by brothers Robert, Donald, and William (Connie); sister Camille Jimerson; sister in laws Jean Delusa, Grace Gorman, and Mary Delusa; special nieces who were involved with her care, Esther (Dunlap) Ruznski, MaryAnn (Delusa) Gornick, Gina (Delusa) Vitalie and Susan (Miller) Lovette; and many other nieces and nephews. She retired from Bestform factory and was a member of St. Clare of Assis Parish, Johnstown. She enjoyed spending time with her family. A mass service will be held at a later date.
