Stanko, John P., 87, of Statesville, NC, passed away on October 25, 2020 at his home. Born June 20, 1933 to the late Joseph and Mary (Plovish) Stanko. John is preceded in death by son Chad Stanko, parents, and sister Pauline Stanko. He is survived by his loving wife Anna (Evenech) Stanko; children, John Jon (Bonnie) Stanko of Hooversville, PA; John (Sylvia) Tokar of Maryland; and Cynthia (JW) Hodge of Mooresville, NC; siblings, Patricia (James) Baas of Concord, CA; and Thomas (Sharon) Stanko of Hooversville, PA; Grandchildren, Emma Kae, Macie Lynn, Brian, Kelsey, Ryan, Dylan, Nathan, and Madison; and Greatgrandchildren, Elle, Harper, and Hayden. John was a 1951 graduate of Forbes High School and was retired from Bethlehem Steel. He was a lifetime member of the Hooversville VFW, a lifetime member of the USS St. Paul Association, a member of the Old Timer’s Baseball Association, and was inducted into the Somerset County Old Timers Hall of Fame in 2010. John served 4 years in the US Navy aboard heavy cruiser USS St. Paul and received a Korean Service Medal,  Korean PVC Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Gold Medal, Presidential Citation South Korea Gold Medal, and the China Service Gold Medal.
