Rainey, Theodore W., 83, Upper Yoder, died Feb. 3, 2015 at LaurelWood Care Center. Born July 14, 1931 to the late Wade and Sophia (Poliot) Rainey. Preceded in death by parents, Wade K. and Sophia D. Rainey, and daughter-in-laws, Pattie (Callaihan) Rainey and Kelly (Shaffer) Rainey. Survived by loving wife, Betty (Tinsmith) Rainey; sons, Kevin Rainey, Conemaugh Twp.; Brian Rainey (Pam Anderson), Johnstown; Stephen Rainey, Johnstown; brothers, Robert Rainey (Helen), Delaware; Ronald Rainey, South Carolina; granddaughters, Kalynne, Stephanie, and Brianna Rainey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ted graduated from Johnstown High school in 1950, attended Bloomsburg College for 3 years, and was then a drafter in the Army during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1955. Ted held many jobs throughout his life. He worked for Bethlehem Steel as a crane operator, was a Johnstown City fireman for a number of years, worked at U.S. Steel as a plant guard and then a crane operator until they closed, all before retiring from Freight Car America. Ted, his wife Betty, and their 3 sons ran a family owned business called Sea Doo Ski Doo. Ted was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a member of Beaverdale American Legion Post 160 for 55 years, Beaverdale Sportsman’s Club, and a member of St. Clements. He was also a former trustee and president for the Central Penn Police Association. Ted loved the mountains, hunting, fishing, and his dog Zoey. He enjoyed when the neighbor girls Bella and Libby would come over in the afternoons to feed and read stories to him. Ted will be missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received 3 until the 4 p.m. memorial service, Feb. 8 at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave, Nancy Hoover officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Upper Yoder Fire and Rescue.
