Rykala, Walter E. “Vudek”, Franklin Borough, died July 11, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center.  Born November 5, 1929 in Franklin; son of the late John and Mary (Hudy) Rykala. Preceded in death by wife, Frances L.  (Frankosky); sisters, Bernice Solomon and Sophie Kobal; and brothers, Edward and Stanley. Survived by children, David “Moose” married to, Tammy (Chappell); Karen, married to William Yurkovich; Barbara, married to Joseph Verno, all of Johnstown; also, grandchildren, Stephanie (Barry) Maluchnik; Carla (Steve) Krenisky; David Rykala (Samantha); Scott Rykala; Jessica Verno and companion, Matt Brehm; Anthony Verno and companion, Sammi Britton; great-grandchildren, Lilly and Landon Oakes;  step-grandchildren, Tanya (Jason) Monborne; Charles (Jamie) Nagle; Anthony (Christina) Nagle; and Melissa Nagle; numerous step-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Petruska, Franklin; sisters-in-law, Bertha Rykala, Jerome; and Betty Rykala, Franklin. U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the military Police during the Korean Conflict. Retired employee of Franklin Borough. Life member of the Franklin Borough Volunteer Fire Co.  President of the White Eagle Society, Franklin Borough. Longtime coach of Franklin Little League.  He was dedicated to his family, faith, and community. Member of Ss. Gregory and Barnabas Catholic Church, Daisytown, where mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m., Rev. Robert Ruston officiating.   Friends received Friday from 2-8 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. 1521 Frankstown Rd. where prayer service will be held. Committal Forest Lawn Cemetery with military rites by VFW Menoher Post 155. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Franklin Borough Volunteer Fire Co. or Ss.
