MILLARD, WINFIELD H. (93): Passed from this world and reborn in the next on March 20, 2021, the first day of spring. Born November 18, 1927 in Franklin Forks, PA, his family moved to Binghamton, NY during the Great Depression where he spent most of his childhood. He later moved to the Johnstown, PA area where he started a family and has resided since 1961. A member of the Greatest Generation, he joined the U.S. Navy at 17 years of age and served in the Pacific theater during the closing days of World War II. After his military service, he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and worked as a journeyman lineman until his retirement at age 70. During a career of more than 45 years, he worked all across the United States, as well as internationally in Vietnam during the war and later in Saudi Arabia. The final 10 years of his career were spent working all across Alaska, including in the Aleutians, the Pribilofs and on the North Slope. Within the trade, IBEW is jokingly said to stand for “I’ve Been Every Where” – he truly had been. A legend within the IBEW fraternity for his work ethic, retirement was a challenge until he bought a pair of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Redirecting his energy to his new hobby, he proceeded to ride 200,000+ miles, most of them solo, including 5 trips to Alaska, before finally parking them at age 89 ½. He is preceded in death by most of his contemporaries, his parents, all of his siblings, his wife of 53 years, Barbara and son, John. He is survived by four sons and their spouses, Bruce, Brian (Christy), Brett (Donna) and Branden (Melissa). Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 12-2 pm, at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd, where a service will follow at 2 pm, Pastor Nancy Hoover officiating. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
