Horner, Jay W., 91, Sidman, went to be with the Lord February 13, 2017 at Forest Hills Personal Care. Born March 12, 1925, in Salix, son of the late Charles V. and Lucille J. (Wright) Horner. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years Margaret E. (Houghton); his brothers, Herschel, Verde, John, Robert, Warren, and Harry.  Survived by his children, Gregory Horner (Denise), Ladson, SC; Michael Horner (Kathy), Leesburg, VA; Bruce Horner (Pam), Houston, TX; William Horner (Mary), Woodbridge, VA; Benjamin Horner (Wendy), Lynchburg, VA; Sally Oldham (Chad), Windber; Jennifer Yoder (Joe), Windber, PA; his grandchildren, Matthew, Meagan, Ashley, Jesse, Michele, Laura, Rebecca, Heather, Amber, Tessa, Brian, Cody, Garrett, Ryan, Mckenzie, Derek, Nathan, Sara, and  Mia; great grandchildren Addison, Dylan, Chase, Landon, Morgan, Riley, Eileen, Christopher Jr., Macey Jay and Chloe;  his sister-in-law’s, Shirley Meyers, Sheffield Lake, OH; Emily Horner, Windber; Yvonne Horner, Salix; and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  Jay was a Veteran of both the United States Air Force and United States Navy. He retired from U.S. Steel where he was employed as a Machinist. He was a member of Dunlo United Methodist Church. Jay was a member of SOAR, and was also the Elton Boy Scout Troop Master. He was very instrumental in getting the Salix Log Cabin up and operating it. He started the Honor Roll for Veterans at Salix. Friends and Family will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Road, Johnstown. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Earl Butterfield officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW from Menoher Post #155. The family wishes to thank the staff at Forest Hills Personal Care and Windber Hospice for their wonderful care they provided for Jay.
