Howarth, Gary R., 75, Johnstown passed away September 8, 2023. Born December 29, 1947, to the late George and Catherine (Woznick) Howarth. Also preceded in death by loving wife Diane (Burns) Howarth and aunts, Ann, Mary, Elizabeth Howarth who raised him.

Survived by sons Todd (Sandra) from Centreville, VA, Troy from Johnstown, PA; sister, Sharon Layman (Harlan) from Myrtle Beach, SC.; grand dog, Max; special friend Jack Mish.

Gary was a graduate of Johnstown High School class of 1965. He also graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in political history, and from Saint Francis University with a MA in labor relations.

He served in the US Army from 1967 to 1970 obtaining the rank of Sergeant. After leaving the military, he was employed by Penelec/GPU for 30 years and retired as the supervisor of worker’s compensation for the GPU system in Reading, PA. After leaving GPU, Gary returned to Johnstown and worked for the PA Department of Labor and Industry before retiring in 2008.

Gary enjoyed reading, movies, politics, and sports. He was an avid Pitt fan, and a season ticket holder for many years. Per Gary’s wishes, there will be no viewing or service. A private interment will be held for the immediate family later. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local animal shelter.
