Obituary

Grasser, Russell S., 88, Johnstown, died May 5, 2020 at his home.  Born September 7, 1931.  Son of the late Dorsey and Mary R. (Bowker) Grasser.  Preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Ethel Wagner Grasser; his son, Mark; his siblings, James, Bill, John “Jack”, Ken, Joyce, Donnie Ray, Genevieve “Dolly”, Mary, and step brother, Albert Montgomery.  Survived by his wife of 67 years, Audrey (Ascher); children, David (Carla), Stephen (Jody) and Thomas (Diane); grandchildren, Carrie, Nicole, Russell, Kayla, Jackie, Keith and Stephen; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lindy, Ethel “Darlene”, Harry, Leonard “Gene” and Betty; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other members of extended family and friends. Russell served our country as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief in the United States Marine Corp. during the war in Korea. He retired from the Roll Shop at Bethlehem Steel after 40 years. He was devoted to his wife, his children, and grandchildren. He would always lend a helping hand to others when he could, he was able to fix anything, and enjoyed tinkering around the house. He was a member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, and volunteered at their food pantry, drove and maintained the church bus for many years. Due to current circumstances, all services will be held privately for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Russell’s memory to Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, 1068 Bedford St.  Johnstown, PA 15902 or St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
